How To Breakdown a Chicken

Although chicken is not a staple protein in our home, we can't deny the fact that American's consume a lot of it! It is estimated that Americans eat over 90 pounds each of chicken annually. To me, that's insane, but nonetheless, its the truth. What challenges me the most is the fact that people no longer use whole chickens, but rather precut and prepackaged portions of singular parts.

Access to an array of cuts, mainly that of the leaner portions have become our go-to cuts to consume on a regular basis. Gone are the days where the household picks up a whole chicken, breaks it down, makes a pot of stock, and has several days worth of food. The truth is, most of us wouldn't know what to do with a whole chicken besides possibly making a pot of soup or roasting one whole.

So, in the spirit of inspiring others, here's a video showing you just how easy it is to work with a whole chicken. Doing this will deepen your skills, save you money, and will add more variety to kitchen. Check out the video below and let me know if you are familiar with breaking down whole birds. And remember, once you dial in the chicken, the same technique can be used for ducks, guinea fowl, turkeys, an even ostrich :)
